Petroleum Expenditures by Sector

 

Expenditures on petroleum increased to $8,059.6 million ($8.1 billion) in 2022, which was a 41.7–percent increase from 2021 expenditures of $5,689.7 million ($5.7 billion). 

The transportation sector spent over three–quarters (82 percent) of the total expenditures. The industrial sector spent 15 percent, the commercial sector spent 1.8 percent, and the residential sector spent 1.6 percent, while the electric power sector spent less than 1 percent (0.14%).

The expenditures are in nominal dollars to provide a better comparison.
