Nebraska Chemical Facility Security Standards

The Nebraska Legislature has found that the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency of the United States Department of Homeland Security (CISA) has encouraged chemical facilities to maintain security measures and offers a voluntary and publicly available alternative chemical security program that provides facilities that possess dangerous chemicals no-cost services and tools to identify risks and improve chemical security.

Pursuant to Nebraska Statute, beginning on July 18, 2024, a chemical facility within the State of Nebraska shall utilize CISA’s publicly available alternative chemical security program if such chemical facility was required on or before July 27, 2023, to have a chemical facility security program pursuant to 6 C.F.R. §27.200 et. seq., as such regulations existed on such date.

The required CISA chemical security services and tools are available through the ChemLock program found at https://www.cisa.gov/resources-tools/programs/chemlock.
