Nebraska's Natural Gas Annual Consumption by Sector


In 2023, Nebraska used 196.0 billion cubic feet of natural gas, an increase of 3.8 percent from 2022. The industrial sector consumed 53.25 percent of the total consumption, the residential sector consumed 19.26 percent, and the commercial sector consumed 17.50 percent. The electric power and transportation sectors consumed 7.26 percent and 2.73 percent, respectively.

Within the residential sector, according to the Housing Units by Fuel Used for Home Heating report, 58 percent of Nebraska households used natural gas as their primary heating fuel.
