Natural Gas Expenditures by Sector
In 2023, expenditures on natural gas decreased (12.8 percent) to $1,534.7 million from $1,759.0 million in 2022. The industrial sector spent $637.3 million (42 percent of the total spent), the residential sector spent $494.4 million (32 percent), and the commercial sector spent $347.4 million (23 percent). The electric power sector spent $44.8 million (3 percent), and the transportation sector spent $10.8 million (less than one percent of the total).
The expenditures are in nominal dollars to provide a better comparison.
