Natural Gas in Storage in Nebraska
The traditional inventory–building season is April to October for natural gas. The volume of working gas in underground storage by November 1 has to meet winter's demands under any circumstance. The volume in storage in October was approximately 87 percent of storage capacity.
In October 2025, Nebraska had the capacity to store 12,653 million cubic feet (mmcf) of working natural gas or working gas, and there was 11,019 mmcf working gas according to the Energy Information Administration estimates. As shown in Figure 1 and the data table below, this volume of working gas was an increase of 354 mmcf (or 3 percent) from the previous month but down 10 percent from October of the previous year. Stocks were just below the five–year average, below the previous year's stocks, but in the center of the five–year range.
