Iron & Steel Foundries - Area Sources

Applicability

eCFR Subpart ZZZZZ - [ecfr.gov]

This subpart applies to:

  • Iron and steel foundries that are Area Sources* of Hazardous Air Pollutants (HAPs).

Definition of Iron and Steel Foundries:

  • A facility or portion of a facility that melts scrap, ingot, and/or other forms of iron and/or steel and pours the resulting molten metal into molds to produce final or near final shape products for introduction into commerce.
  • Research and development facilities, operations that only produce non-commercial castings, and operations associated with nonferrous metal production are not included in this definition.


*Area Sources of HAPs emit or have the potential to emit:

  • < 10 tons per year of any single HAP, or
  • < 25 tons per year of combined HAPs.
  • Major Sources emit more than Area Sources.
