Health Alerts Issued for Big Indian and Willow Creek Lakes

The state has issued new health alerts for harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae, at Big Indian Lake in Gage County and Willow Creek Reservoir in Pierce County. Alerts continue at Rockford Lake in Gage County and Maple Creek Recreation Area Lake in Colfax County. An alert has ended at Holmes Lake in Lincoln.
Students' Environmental Artwork to be Featured in Environmental Calendar

The artwork of 13 Nebraska students will be featured in the 2019 “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” environmental calendar. The statewide contest is sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) and focuses on the importance of waste reduction, recycling and litter cleanup.
Small Business Compliance Advisory Panel to Meet Sept. 13

Aug. 13, 2018 – The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality will be coordinating the annual meeting of the Nebraska Small Business Compliance Advisory Panel. Check in begins at 9:30 a.m. with the meeting scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 13, 2018 at the Nebraska Department of Transportation Operations Building, 5001 S. 14th St., Room 110. (Please note that the location will be at the NDOT location rather than at NDEQ Offices this year.)

VW Funds Received to Reimburse Replacement of Diesel Refuse Trucks and Irrigation Engines

NDEQ has received its first payment from the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust Fund. The $287,243 that NDEQ received is designated to reimburse eligible applicants of the Clean Diesel Rebate Program. The money will be used along with federal grant funds to partially reimburse costs associated with the replacement of five diesel refuse trucks and six diesel irrigation engines.

Clean Diesel Rebate Applications Accepted Through December 15

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality’s 2018 Clean Diesel Rebate Program is now accepting applications for two types of rebate – diesel refuse truck replacements and agricultural irrigation pump diesel engine replacements. Applications must be submitted to NDEQ by December 15, 2018 to be considered.
NDEQ established the Nebraska Clean Diesel Program in 2008 to distribute funding received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of reducing diesel emissions and improving air quality in the state.
