NDEQ Seeks Early Stakeholder Input on Draft Solid Waste Rules; Meeting/Conference Call Scheduled Nov. 25

Nov. 8, 2013 -- The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) has scheduled an outreach meeting/conference call on November 25, 2013 to seek stakeholder input on proposed amendments to three sets of waste regulations. The proposed revisions are designed to make waste regulations consistent with statutory language passed by the Nebraska Legislature in 2013. The drafts to be discussed are proposed revisions to:

Title 128-Nebraska Hazardous Waste Regulations
Title 132-Integrated Solid Waste Management Regulations

Nov. 18, 2013 --The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has received numerous applications from Nebraska schools that are seeking funding to replace older school buses with new buses that have certified cleaner burning engines. This funding is made possible by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s State Clean Diesel Grant program.

The reimbursements will be used to help the schools replace older school buses with new buses that have certified cleaner-burning engines. Course Regarding Petroleum Site Assessment and Cleanup to be Held April 1 and 2

February 12, 2014 -- A course titled “Light Nonaqueous-Phase Liquids: Science, Management and Technology” is being offered to those who are involved in the assessment and cleanup of petroleum facilities. The two-day training course will be held April 1 and 2, 2014 at the InterContinental at the Plaza hotel in Kansas City, Missouri. The training is hosted by the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment through the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council.

Over $2 Million Awarded to Recycling, Litter Programs

Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality Acting Director Pat Rice has announced the awarding of $2,006,707 in 51 grants for litter cleanup, recycling, and public education programs and activities. Funds for the Litter Reduction and Recycling Grant Program are generated from a fee charged to certain manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers of products that commonly contribute to litter. The program has been providing grants annually since 1979.
