eCFR Subpart UUUUU [ecfr.gov]

This subpart applies to:

  • Owners and operators of coal-fired or oil-fired electric utility steam generating units (EGUs).

An EGU is:

  • A fossil fuel-fired combustion unit of more than 25 megawatts electric (MWe) that serves as a generator to produce electricity for sale, or
  • A fossil fuel-fired unit that cogenerates steam and electricity and supplies more than 1/3 of its potential electric output capacity and more than 25 MWe output to any utility power distribution system for sale.

Not subject to this subpart:

  • Stationary combustion turbines (not including integrated gasification combined cycle turbines) covered under NESHAP YYYY.
  • EGUs that are not coal- or oil-fired and combust natural gas for more than 10% average annual heat input for any 3 calendar years or for more than 15% annual heat input during any calendar year.
  • EGUs that can combust more than 25 MW of coal or oil and did not fire these fuels for more than 10% of the average annual heat input during any 3 calendar years or for more than 15% annual heat input during any calendar year.
