2019 Source Water Project Descriptions
West Knox Rural Water District – 2019-96719665
WELLHEAD PROTECTION PLAN (WHPP) FOR WEST KNOX RWD
Supporting Bazile Groundwater Management Area in increasing participation of BMPs from local farmers. Update WHP area to include new wells using NDEE GET model. Develop WHP plan that emphasizes better understanding the local geology and hydrology and developing emergency, contingency, and long-term planning for water system in response to the March 2019 floods. Coordinate with BGMA coordinator and partners to increase local farmer and producer participation in incentive and cost share program in the BGMA as well as identifying wells to be abandoned. Well Abandonment.

SAFE WATER FOR THE FUTURE
Aquifer pump test to gather data on connectedness of aquifer to better understand fluctuations in nitrate levels. Hydrogeologic Assessment to assist the community: locate a new water source to place a well as well as understand the areas geology, understand aquifer properties and vulnerability to contamination through the study of the local hydrology and geology. ID and Abandon wells. Coordinate with BGMA coordinator and partners to increase local farmer and producer participation in incentive and cost share program in the BGMA as well as identifying wells to be abandoned.

CITY OF CREIGHTON SOURCE WATER PROTECTION PROJECT – 2019
Overall goal of this project is to better understand and communicate the local geology and hydrology in the Creighton WHP area and use information to education the community and increase local participation in the Bazile project. Tasks include identifying cultivated ground with high potential of nitrate infiltration, summarize findings in a report, and hold a landowner workshop to increase participation in implementing BMPs and other incentives available through the Bazile project. Develop a local technical advisory committee to coordinate and increase participation in the Bazile project in Creighton's WHP area. Well abandonment efforts.

SECURING CLEAN WATER FOR THE FUTURE
The primary goal of the Project is to establish a locally-tailored WHP Plan for the City. There are several key components of plan development, mainly the vulnerability assessment to aid in understanding how nitrates travel to the aquifer. Furthermore, it will create opportunities to work with project partners to manage land use in these areas to reduce nitrate infiltration to the aquifer. The City will use the NDEE WHP Area map updated in 2018. Well abandonment efforts.
