Nebraska’s Voluntary Cleanup Program (VCP) is a streamlined, results-based approach to environmental cleanup at contaminated sites. The VCP was established by the Remedial Action Plan Monitoring Act (RAPMA), and its goals include protecting human health and the environment and returning contaminated properties to productive use safely and swiftly.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s (NDEE) Livestock Compliance Section sees inspections as an avenue to help livestock producers proactively protect waters of the state.

NDEE administers two types of permits for livestock waste control facilities in Nebraska – the federal National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), and the state Construction and Operating Permit.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy will present a Permitting Tools and Resources Webinar on Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. This seminar is intended for anyone who wants to learn more about permitting or the resources and tools offered to assist with permit compliance, record-keeping and information retrieval. Information in this webinar may be especially beneficial for environmental professionals, consultants, community development corporations and others involved in economic or new business development. The seminar is free and open to anyone interested in attending.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy will present a General Construction Permit Webinar on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 11 a.m. This webinar is intended for individuals who are seeking coverage under the Air General Construction Permits that the NDEE has issued, and is also open to the public. The session will also provide a demonstration of the online application process.

NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) proposes to reissue, with change, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) General Permit NEP110000 for Pesticides Applications To, Over, or Near Waters of the State of Nebraska in accordance to the NDEE Title 119 – Rules and Regulations Pertaining to the Issuance of Permits under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental and Energy will be coordinating the annual meeting of the Nebraska Small Business Compliance Advisory Panel. The meeting is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. on October 14, 2021 in room 23 of the NDEE Fallbrook Building.

Land application of treated wastewater can be an alternative for facilities looking to reduce water on site without discharging it to streams or rivers. And because some treated wastewater contains nutrients, it can also benefit receiving agricultural land.

Facilities need to meet certain conditions before treated wastewater can be land applied, and those conditions vary depending on the type of facility and what permits they hold through the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy. NDEE’s NPDES and State Permits Section reviews land application plans.

Through this program, property that may otherwise be considered a liability may lead to beneficial reuse and economic redevelopment.

Background

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) general permit NER160000 for storm water discharges from construction sites, or “CSW general permit”, has been extended beyond the expiration date of October 31, 2021, according to Title 119-Rules and Regulations Pertaining to the Issuance of Permits Under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System, Chapter 24.
