To provide a resource for the public and enhance transparency, the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy has created a new webpage for updates related to cleanup and mitigation efforts at the AltEn ethanol facility.

DWEE launches the Nebraska Groundwater Quality Clearinghouse

Groundwater information in the state is now easily accessible on the Nebraska Groundwater Quality Clearinghouse website.

The website shows a map of Nebraska water wells and features various layers including a map of the High Plains Aquifer and soil data.

The database has over 1.6 million sample results and is believed to be the largest collection of nitrate groundwater data in the nation, with over 200,000 results at 34,000 wells, said Dave Miesbach, DWEE Groundwater Section Supervisor.

The artwork of 13 Nebraska students will be featured in the 2022 “Nebraska: Don’t Waste It!” environmental calendar. The statewide contest is sponsored by the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) and focuses on the importance of waste reduction, recycling and litter cleanup.

All Nebraska schools and child care facilities eligible for free lead testing of their drinking water

LINCOLN — Nebraska schools and childcare facilities may sample for lead in their drinking water through an expanded effort from the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE). Qualifying facilities include public, parochial, and private schools from pre-K through high school, as well as public and in-home child cares.

Clean Diesel Rebate applications accepted through January 13, 2022

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s 2021 Clean Diesel Rebate Program is now accepting applications for three types of rebates — diesel refuse truck replacements, school bus replacements and agricultural irrigation pump diesel engine replacements. Applications must be submitted to DWEE by Jan. 13, 2022, to be considered.

DWEE established the Nebraska Clean Diesel Program in 2008 to distribute funding received from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the purpose of reducing diesel emissions and improving air quality in the state.

DWEE/DHHS release lead sampling data

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE), in cooperation with the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), has released lead sampling data from its grant program that sampled drinking water in licensed child care facilities, and public preschools and elementary schools across the state.

DWEE to provide rebates for replacing diesel vehicles and irrigation engines

LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy Director Jim Macy announced on Feb. 23, 2022, that the 2021 Nebraska Clean Diesel Program is awarding approximately $1.3 million in rebates to schools, refuse companies and farmers across the state to aid in the replacement of older diesel vehicles and engines.

Rebates were awarded in three project categories:

2023 Waste, Litter, and Scrap Tire grant applications accepted July 13 – August 24

Grants for 2023 for the Waste Reduction and Recycling Incentive, Litter Reduction and Recycling, and Scrap Tire programs can be submitted between July 13 and August 24, 2022 (4:00 p.m. CST). The grant term will be January 1 through December 31, 2023. Grant decisions will be announced in December 2022. An estimated $3 million will be available for Litter grants and $4.5 million for Waste grant awards.
