In 2023, the state's petroleum consumption was 45,531 thousand barrels (45.5 million barrels), a 1.3 percent decrease from 46,151 thousand barrels (46.2 million barrels) in 2022. The transportation sector was responsible for over three–quarters (79.3 percent) of the consumption, with the industrial, residential, commercial, and electric power sectors consuming the remaining 15.9 percent, 2.7 percent, 2.0 percent, and 0.21 percent, respectively.

The regions used for weekly reporting were formally the East, West and Producing regions. In October 2015, EIA increased the number of regions and changed their names to better align the storage locations with the markets they serve and to provide more information to market observers and participants.
