There is one commercial methane plant in Nebraska whose methane is its end product and does not generate electricity. See the Biomass Energy Generation report for plants who use methane to generate electricity.

In 2024, the companies listed below reported that nearly 89 million kilowatthours of electricity were generated by biomass energy in Nebraska, a decrease of 3.2 percent from the 2023 generation of 91,608,949 kilowatthours (see graph and table below).

Expenditures on fertilizer jumped to $2,230.0 million in 2022, which was a 22.5–percent increase from 2021 expenditures of $1,820.0 million. This set a new record high.

Expenditures on electricity decreased to $270.8 million in 2022, which was a 4.0–percent decrease from 2021 expenditures of $282.0 million.

The survey that includes the cost of electricity for irrigation was conducted by the Nebraska Rural Electric Association annually from 1980 to 1994 and every two years after 1994. The average column in each table contains the average of all the systems, not just the systems in that table.
