Ethanol and Unleaded Gasoline Average Rack Prices
As of March 2026, the rack price of ethanol was $1.99 per gallon versus $2.74 per gallon for unleaded 87-octane gasoline--a difference of 75 cents in price. The average ethanol rack price was 25 cents higher from last month's price and 24cents higher from last year. Unleaded 87-octane gasoline's average rack price was 81 cents higher than last month's price and 37 cents higher from last year. Unleaded 84-octane gasoline's average rack price was 74 cents higher from last month's price and 30 cents higher from last year.
In Figure 1, the average annual rack prices for each type of fuel are shown.
Note: A new reporting method for fuel ethanol prices to include the RIN started in April 2021. January through March 2021 were also revised using the new method so that the whole year is consistent.
