The state has issued one new health alert this week, at Big Indian Creek Lake in Gage County. Alerts continue at Kirkman’s Cove in Richardson County, Rockford Lake in Gage County, Iron Horse Trail Lake in Pawnee County and Willow Creek Lake in Pierce County.

Site Review Committee for Heritage Disposal and Storage Proposal to Meet in Grand Island on September 20

The Site Review Committee assigned to review and report on a hazardous waste management facility proposed by Heritage Disposal and Storage, has announced their seventh meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Sept. 20 at the Grand Island Public Library, 211 N. Washington St. The Committee will discuss major issues, concerns and conclusions related to the Heritage proposal. The meeting is open to the public.

The state has issued a health alert for harmful algal blooms, also known as toxic blue-green algae, at Kirkman’s Cove in Richardson County and Maple Creek Recreation Area Lake in Colfax County. Weekly sampling has been conducted at 52 public lakes since the beginning of May.
