Chemigation program works with partners to protect water

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s (DWEE) Chemigation Program works to ensure that those using irrigation systems to apply fertilizers and pesticides do not contaminate sources of irrigation water.

The Chemigation Program works with local Natural Resources Districts (NRDs), the University of Nebraska and agricultural producers to ensure the regulations in Title 195 – Chemigation Regulations are followed.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE), through the Livestock Waste Control (LWC) Program, is charged with protecting Nebraska’s surface water and groundwater from discharges of livestock waste from the thousands of Animal Feeding Operations (AFOs) in Nebraska.

To achieve this task, DWEE administers Title 130 – Livestock Waste Control Regulations. Title 130 prohibits animal feeding operations to discharge livestock waste to waters of the state. DWEE maintains compliance with Title 130 through a series of inspections, permits, and periodic monitoring.

Thank you to all who attended the meetings so far. There were more than 200 total participants during these first stakeholder workgroup sessions.

DWEE accepting preliminary grid resiliency project proposals

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) is now accepting Preliminary Project Proposals for the Grid Resiliency Grant Program. Funded by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Grid Resiliency Grant Program aims to improve the resiliency of the Nebraska electrical grid and promote a clean and equitable energy economy for all Nebraskans.
