The Oil Price Information Service (OPIS) collects wholesale heating oil prices each week for Nebraska and other states in the Midwest Region during the heating season (October to March).

The Energy Information Administration, the independent statistical and analytical agency within the U.S. Department of Energy, conducts the State Heating Oil and Propane Program from October to March—the heating season—each year.

Geothermal technology uses the earth’s natural thermal energy—a renewable resource—to heat your home. While outdoor temperatures fluctuate substantially with the seasons, subsurface ground and water temperatures remain relatively constant year–round. A geothermal loop, running underground or underwater, capitalizes on these constant temperatures.

In Nebraska, most ethanol is sold in a blended fuel–10 percent ethanol with 90 percent gasoline (called E–10) or 85 percent ethanol with 15 percent gasoline (called E85). 

Of the total gasoline and ethanol–blended fuel sold in the state in May 2025, 85.2 percent was an ethanol blend. The market share for ethanol–blended fuel is shown in Figure 1 and the data table below on a monthly basis. In Figure 1, it can be seen that May 2025's percentage is at the bottom boundary of the five–year range, below the five–year average, and equivalent to May 2024's percentage.

As of August 2025, the rack price of ethanol was $1.87 versus $2.32 for unleaded 87–octane gasoline—a difference of 45 cents per gallon. The average ethanol rack price was five cents higher from last month's price but four cents lower from last year. Unleaded 87–octane gasoline's average rack price was two cents lower than last month's price and 24 cents lower from last year. Unleaded 84–octane gasoline's average rack price was one cent higher from last month's price but 24 cents lower from last year.
