Diesel Fuel Consumption
In Figure 1, diesel fuel's monthly consumption in May of 2025 was above May 2024's consumption, in the upper boundary of the five–year range, and above the five–year average.

As for annual consumption, it can be seen in Figure 2 that diesel fuel consumption in 2024 was a slight increase over 2023's consumption.

Indicator
An indicator to support high or low consumption of diesel fuel is reported in miles traveled. From month to month, the difference in miles traveled can be large. From year to year, the number of miles traveled indicate very little difference although there are small increases that add up when looking at the miles traveled ten years and twenty years ago. A drawback to the miles–traveled data is that the data for passenger cars, recreational vehicles, and diesel trucks are not separated.

Notes: Diesel fuel includes all combustible liquids suitable for use in diesel–powered motor vehicles. It does not include kerosene. The Diesel Fuel Tax Act replaced the Special Fuels Tax Act and became effective on July 1, 1994, so there are no numbers before July 1, 1994. NA indicates data is not available.
