Secondary Lead Smelter Industry

Applicability

eCFR Subpart X [ecfr.gov]

This subpart applies to:

  1. Any of the following affected sources at secondary lead smelters:
    1. Blast, reverberatory, rotary, and electric furnaces;
    2. Refining kettles;
    3. Agglomerating furnaces;
    4. Dryers;
    5. Process fugitive emission sources;
    6. Buildings containing lead-bearing materials;
    7. Fugitive dust sources.


Definition of "Secondary Lead Smelter"
Any facility at which lead-bearing scrap material, such as lead-acid batteries, is recycled into elemental lead or lead alloys by smelting.

Exempt from this subpart:

  1. Primary lead processors
  2. Lead refiners
  3. Lead remelters
