The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s Petroleum Remediation section oversees the investigation and cleanup of petroleum contamination across the state. The program also administers a financial assistance program aimed to help tank owners pay for cleanup costs.

This work helps protect Nebraska’s groundwater and the public and can help prepare a site for future development.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s (NDEE) Chemigation Program works to ensure that those using irrigation systems to apply fertilizers and pesticides do not contaminate sources of irrigation water.

The Chemigation Program works with local Natural Resources Districts (NRDs), the University of Nebraska and agricultural producers to ensure the regulations in Title 195 – Chemigation Regulations are followed.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE), through the Livestock Waste Control (LWC) Program, is charged with protecting Nebraska’s surface water and groundwater from discharges of livestock waste from the thousands of Animal Feeding Operations (AFOs) in Nebraska.

To achieve this task, NDEE administers Title 130 – Livestock Waste Control Regulations. Title 130 prohibits animal feeding operations to discharge livestock waste to waters of the state. NDEE maintains compliance with Title 130 through a series of inspections, permits, and periodic monitoring.

Clean drinking water is a critical resource that Nebraskans depend on every day, and the Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) is committed to preserving and protecting clean drinking water throughout the state. One of the ways the department achieves that is through the certification and training of public water system operators under the regulations of Title 179 – Public Water Systems.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy works closely with public water system (PWS) operators to monitor the drinking water that’s provided to Nebraskans.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy’s (NDEE) Drinking Water Field Services team works face-to-face with the state’s public water systems (PWS) as a resource for nearly all aspects of the state’s Drinking Water program.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) has completed the first round of stakeholder workgroup sessions for the Climate Pollution Reduction Planning Program.

But what happens if a water system’s equipment breaks? Or if a PWS’s sample indicates the water has too much of a certain contaminant?

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) Drinking Water Program is dedicated to assisting public water systems in providing safe, reliable drinking water for their consumers.

From department engineers who approve construction projects, to field staff who inspect water systems, and water specialists who monitor water testing, the department ensures that public water consumers have drinking water that meets all state and federal standards.

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy conducts an inventory of air emissions each year using reports from permitted facilities.

This inventory annually collects air emission information from major industrial sources and triennially from lower-emitting minor industrial sources. Each year, the department issues a list of facilities required to complete their reporting, and those reports are due on March 31.
