NOTICE OF PERMIT ISSUANCE

The Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment (DWEE) proposes to reissue, with change, the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit to Tyson Fresh Meats, Inc., 1200 Industrial Parkway, Madison, NE (NPDES # NE0028363; SIC 2011, 2013, 2077, 5147). This facility is a complex pork slaughterhouse. Process wastewater from a lagoon treatment system is discharged through land application in Subbasin EL1 in the Elkhorn River Basin. The permit would be issued for a period of up to five years and would restrict pollutant discharges to comply with the requirements of Department regulations. The draft permit, fact sheet, and other public information are available for review and copying at DWEE’s Lincoln Office, 245 Fallbrook Boulevard, Suite 100, Lincoln, Nebraska 68521 between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (CT), weekdays, excluding holidays. A determination to hold a hearing will be based upon factual environmental or regulatory consideration.
