State Approves 100th Online Application for Stormwater Construction Permit
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality announced today that it has approved the 100th online application for coverage under the stormwater construction general permit.
“We began providing this new web-based application process in November, and it has proven to be a much more efficient way of processing applications,” said NDEQ Director Jim Macy. “Responses we have received from applicants has been very positive.”
This new application process involves those who are planning construction projects of an acre or larger. To be covered under the stormwater construction general permit from NDEQ, applicants need to verify that they have a stormwater pollution prevention plan.
Under the previous permitting process, it would take two weeks or more for an application to be processed and approved. Through the new online process, the timeframe has been reduced to about a one-day turnaround for most applications. The new process prevents the need for NDEQ staff to re-input information submitted by the applicant, and reduces lag time of paperwork being sent back and forth. It also helps identify those applications that need review by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, and streamlines that process.
“This new online system has facilitated faster application processing, while ensuring that the state fulfills its duty to protect Nebraska’s clean air and clean water,” said Governor Pete Ricketts. “I appreciate the leadership of Director Jim Macy in bringing the application process online and making it more efficient for Nebraska businesses to move forward on construction projects. A more customer-friendly state government will encourage continued growth across our state.”
