DWEE launches online portal for credentialed professionals

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (DWEE) has launched a new online portal to streamline the application and certification process for water well professionals, public water operators, onsite installers, swimming pool operators and wastewater treatment operators.

The portal is live on DWEE’s website and was created specifically for aspiring and credentialed professionals to apply for and maintain their licenses. Credentialed professionals can create an online account here: Credentials

The portal allows users to view exam dates; review training course availability; sign up for training and exams; and pay for books, exams, license renewals and their credential online by using a credit card.

Professionals can also review their current continuing education (CE) credits and add new ones; renew their license; and update their personal information through the portal. Same day processing of all user requests is possible with the portal’s new automation.

Those applying for a license must pass an exam before receiving a credential to work in the State of Nebraska. These professionals must recertify their licenses every two years by completing CE credits or by retesting. The online portal makes managing renewals and CE credits easier for professionals.

Previously, the application and renewal processes were paper driven. Exam applications, CE credits, payment and personal information changes had to be submitted to DWEE by mail. The paper process took DWEE 3-5 business days to complete, and professionals needed to contact DWEE to review or manage their CEs.

The portal provides live feedback regarding application review, and users may also view and print their certificate. As the agency transitions to this new online process, the paper process will be phased out over the next few years.

The online portal saves DWEE-certified professionals several steps when maintaining their licenses, making it easier to access their information and know what is required of them so they can do their jobs protecting Nebraskans’ health and water resources.
