Comment Period for Proposed NPDES General Permit for CAFOs Open Through June 26
The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) proposes issuance of a new General Permit under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) to prevent discharges to surface waters. CAFOs within the State of Nebraska that confine only cattle, either in open lots or under roof, are eligible for coverage.
The Public Notice period will run from May 27, 2015 through June 26, 2015
The draft permit, fact sheet and other public information are available for review online at deq.ne.gov under Public Notices, or at NDEQ’s Lincoln Office (address below) between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, excluding holidays. Alternate format materials are available with advance request.
All comments received during the public comment period will be considered in the final decision on issuance of this general permit. A request for a public hearing must be submitted in writing, and must state the nature of the issues proposed to be raised at a hearing. A determination to hold a hearing will be based on factual environmental or regulatory considerations.
