Lead Testing and Reduction Grant Program

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) is committed to reducing childhood exposure to lead from drinking water. NDEE has funding available for schools – public, private and parochial – and licensed child care facilities to remove and replace water faucets, fountains, and filler stations that have sampled and resulted in a lead detection.

This funding is through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN), America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA), and the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act (IIJA).

The documents below provide answers to frequently asked questions schools and child care facilities may have about the Lead Testing and Reduction Grant Program. Also below is a flyer for parents to learn more about the program.

To be eligible for remediation funds, schools and child care facilities must have already sampled their drinking water for lead. Schools and child care facilities should contact NDEE to request test kits at 402-471-2186 or ndee.srf@nebraska.gov

To see sample results for schools that have already sampled for lead, visit the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services’ website: https://dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/Lead-Data.aspx. On the DHHS website, click the link that says “View Testing Results for School and Childcare Facilities.”
