October 2021 Metrics Report
Accomplishments:
- NDEE kicked off a statewide campaign to develop K-12 programming that focuses on hydrogeology, public health and soil health in communities. The effort involves partners from the UNMC, NRDs, UNL and other government agencies. The group is looking for additional stakeholders and planning 2022 outreach events for students.
- The wastewater operator certification exam has seen an increase in its pass rate. In July and August, 67% and 60% of wastewater operators passed their exams. This is because of increased training opportunities through NDEE, holding in-person tests and providing tests that are specific to Nebraska regulations.
- The agency’s internal KanBoard went live in October and teammates had several opportunities to attend training to learn how it works. This system will allow the agency to track projects online.
- The 2021 Power Summit, sponsored by NDEE and NPPD, was held in Lincoln on Oct. 19. A primary objective of the Summit is to enhance the dialogue that has been established between the power industry and the associated regulatory agencies.
Emerging Risks/Issues:
- Due to a recent campylobacteriosis outbreak in Petersburg, the Nebraska Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) and NDEE are working together with the community and consulting with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to try to identify an exposure source. The source(s) have not yet been identified.
Miscellaneous:
- The AltEn Facility Response Group has submitted its Remedial Action Plan as part of its participation in the Voluntary Cleanup Program. The RAP is currently under internal review.
