January 2024 Monthly Metrics

NDEE produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Accomplishments

  • NDEE opened the application period for the Revitalize Rural Nebraska grant program. This program will provide funds to villages and cities of the first and second class to demolish a dilapidated commercial property within corporate limits. This is a competitive grant and the application period closes Feb. 29.
  • NDEE began in-person meetings for its Climate Pollution Reduction grants planning efforts in January. These meetings follow several virtual stakeholder meetings to receive feedback on priority greenhouse gas reduction measures that are proposed to be included in the state's Priority Climate Action Plan. This plan is due to the EPA on March 1.
  • The agency extended its deadline for private drinking water well owners to request a free nitrate sample kit. NDEE first announced the free kits in November 2023. Data from this sampling effort will be used in the statewide nitrate study. Kits can now be requested until March 1.
  • NDEE made progress on IIJA and IRA federal funding applications:
    • Submitted an application to the Department of Energy for early administration funds for the Home Energy Rebates Program
    • Received DOE approval for Energy Efficient Conservation Block Grants for communities. NDEE is currently developing this program.

Miscellaneous

  • NDEE representatives in Emergency Support Functions 10 and 12 worked with NEMA on the cold weather response in early January.
