January 2019 Metrics Report

Emerging Risks / Issues:

  • Over the last two months, NDEQ’s “Grow Nebraska Team” met with four bio-based companies interested in starting new businesses in Nebraska. Each company intends to co-locate near existing ethanol plants. The companies plan to create bio-products, from fish food or fish food additives for aquaculture to bioplastics. Discussions center on environmental permits needed to operate. NDEQ and DED coordinate closely on new and expanding business.

Accomplishments:

  • In early 2017 NDEQ’s Air Quality Division (AQD) initiated a process improvement project to streamline permit conditions. Staff will continually improve permitting by evaluating bottlenecks in the process. The AQD is seeking information to determine the success of the streamlining and to collect suggestions for further improvement. The AQD asked stakeholders to provide ideas and suggestions by January 31st.
