December 2021 Metrics Report

NDEE produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Accomplishments:

  • The 30-day public notice on the Cargill Inc. draft air pollution operating permit was issued on Dec. 24, 2021. When issued, this will be Cargill’s first operating permit – they have been under construction permits for 24 years.
  • NDEE completed process improvement pilots for 319 Subgrants and Integrated Waste Management with widescale use underway. A State Revolving Fund (SRF) Kaizen has been completed and NDEE is piloting the new process.
  • The Water Planning and Monitoring sections and the Drinking Water Division are collaborating to conduct a special Public Drinking Water (PDW) Supply Study. For the next two years, 26 stream location sites will be sampled monthly for arsenic, atrazine, nitrate/nitrite, manganese, uranium and selenium. This will ensure sufficient data to determine if a stream is impaired by pollution and if the source is from groundwater or surface water.

Miscellaneous:

  • The Drinking Water Field Services Section is wrapping up the 2020-2021 Public Water Supply Security Grants. Each year, the program offers $275,000 in grants, funded through a DW SRF set-aside fund, for security or emergency response improvements in public water systems.
