NDEQ produces a monthly metrics report to measure what the agency has accomplished; to set annual and longer-term goals; and to examine these goals against accomplishments to ensure continuous process improvements.

Emerging Risks/Issues:
- A public notice was issued Nov. 29, 2019 for a Plantwide Applicability Limitation (PAL) air permit for OPPD’s Nebraska City plant for the pollutants sulfur dioxide (SO2) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). This would be the first PAL permit issued in Nebraska. PAL permits are structured to allow changes in operation without going through the permit modification process, as long as the permittee complies with a facility-wide cap on actual emissions for the specified pollutant. After receiving public comments and a request for a public hearing, an information session and hearing are being planned in February.
Accomplishments:
- NDEE has selected recipients of rebates for new electric vehicle (EV) charging equipment, funded through the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust. Notifications have been sent out to 29 rebate recipients across the state, and NDEE will soon be announcing the full list of recipients and amounts awarded. Altogether, approximately $1.8 million will be awarded for 32 charging sites in 18 Nebraska counties.
- Grants for 2020 Litter Reduction & Recycling, Waste Reduction & Reduction Incentive, and Scrap Tire totaling about $6.1 million have been awarded to 163 recipients. This includes a Deconstruction of Abandoned Buildings grant to the Village of Oshkosh — the first awarded since 2012. NDEE director Jim Macy, deputy directors and Environmental Quality Council members determined the grant awards.
